"The fabric braids conjure the
frugality and industriousness of the country's early settlers and
echo the homey domesticity of 1950s working-class homes like the one
Woodward grew up in St Cloud, Minnesota. The sculptures strange form,
however, has more exotic roots, it derives
from the distinctive domes of Stupas, the Buddhist shrines that Woodward
encountered on a three month trip last year through Cambodia, Myanmar
and Sri Lanka."
